Griffith University Study Options

Griffith University has multiple different pathways for high school students considering a career as a health professional. Some of these options include:

How Do I Become a Doctor?

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Griffith is a graduate entry four year extended Masters (AQF level 9) degree; school leaver who wish to apply have 2 options.

Apply to Bachelor of Medical Science at Brisbane campus or Gold Coast campus. This degree is a 2 year accelerated course, there is no UMAT or interview process required. Students graduate with a GPA of 5 or higher and successfully complete the course “Human Skills for Medicine” and move seamlessly into the MD program.

The second option is to apply after completion of a health or a non health related degree. Applicants are invited to the Griffith University Station Admissions Assessment (GUMSAA) interview based on a rank derived from a 50/50 combination of their GPA and overall GAMSAT (Graduate Medical School Admissions Test) score.
Each year there is a quota of 22% of places in the Doctor of Medicine program for rural students.

There are also a small number of places in the Bachelor of Medical Science set aside each year for rural applicants. Rural background is defined as having spent 10 years collectively or 5 years consecutively in areas 2-5 in the Australian Statistical and Geographical Category of Remoteness Areas.

Rural Med Ed has partnered with Griffith University to deliver the rural clinical program of the MD. Griffith University and Rural Med Ed support students in campuses in Kingaroy, Dalby, Toowoomba, Warwick and Stanthorpe. MD students may spend up to 2 years in a rural campus during their study; this program is known as the the Longlook program.
