A Dual Qualification in HLT33115 and HLT43021

• Hold or be eligible to hold a valid student visa, and
• Be 17 years-of-age or older at the course commencement date, and
• Have language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Year 12 or higher in Australia, or,
• Have relevant experience working in the health or community services sector

You will need the following equipment to complete assessments:

• A computer or digital device (e.g., iPad),
• Internet connection,
• Access to a printer and/or scanner (these are typically available at each study location),
• Software to view online videos, images and various file types such as PDF.

You will need to possess computer skills including being able to create, download, scan and upload documents, navigate an online learning platform, send and receive emails and search for resources using web-based search engines.

To complete the course, you will need to:

• Attend all training and assessment sessions,
• Successfully complete all online learning content, quizzes and knowledge assessments within the required timeframes,
• Successfully complete all required performance assessments, including:
  • Standing, bending and kneeling on the floor,
  • Lifting light items,
  • Working in a healthcare environment with patients who may have illness and injury,
• Complete the 80-hour industry placement.

RuralMedEd requires that all health students have immunity, or are vaccinated against Hepatitis B, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Pertussis.

Seasonal Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations are highly recommended.

Your immunisation and vaccination history will need to be certified by a general practitioner (GP). RuralMedEd will provide you with a certification document for your GP to complete.

You are required to complete 120 hours of compulsory industry placement in a workplace where health services are delivered by health services assistants. During placement, you will work under the supervision of a registered or credentialled allied health professional.

Through RuralMedEd’s strong partnerships with the healthcare industry, you will have access to a range of placement opportunities, including private hospitals and private practices.

Although RuralMedEd will attempt to find a placement that fits with your work and social commitments, you may be required to manage their schedule in order to commit to the placement requirements. Travel may be required.

Unless otherwise organised, placements will be offered in a full-time block of 40 hours per week for three (3) consecutive weeks. You must successfully complete all academic assessments prior to being offered industry placement.

If you are currently employed in the healthcare sector, you may discuss with the RuralMedEd team the possibility of completing your placement at your workplace.

Upon completion, you’ll have the job-ready qualifications to work as either a health services assistant (or patient services assistant, or assistant in nursing), and an allied health assistant (e.g., occupational therapy assistant or physiotherapy assistant), or both – effectively increasing your job prospects.

For students wishing to pursue tertiary studies, RuralMedEd have an arrangement in place with the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), where you can receive credit for up to 2 units of study in selected degrees. Further information can be obtained by contacting RuralMedEd.
