Course Details

This course equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide first aid and CPR in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It is suitable for individuals who may be required to respond to emergency situations in the community or workplace.

This course is a core requirement for:

• Health professionals and workers in health care settings or communities
• Administrative team members working in a health care setting who may be required to assist in a medical emergency
• Practice staff seeking to meet RACGP 5th edition practice standards criteria C8.1B and GP 3.1A

It is also recommended for general members of the public who wish to be prepared for cardiac emergencies.

What will you learn?

This course covers the essential skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, including:

• Recognising and responding to signs of a medical emergency,
• Following the DRSABCD action plan and ARC guidelines for performing CPR on an adult, child and infant,
• Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively,
• Communicating the details of a medical emergency incident and completing a written incident report,
• Providing effective first aid to a casualty with the following:
  • Anaphylaxis,
  • Asthma,
  • Non-life-threatening bleeding,
  • Choking,
  • Envenomation using pressure immobilisation,
  • Fractures, dislocations, strains and sprains,
  • Nosebleeds, and
  • Shock

Course format

To complete the course, you will need to:

1. Complete the online learning modules at your own pace,
2. Successfully complete the online learning quiz,
3. Attend the face-to-face training and successfully complete all required performance assessments, including performing CPR on the floor for 2mins

Certification

On successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:

• HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation valid for 12 months from the date of issue (as per ARC recommendation for CPR refresher training), and
• HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid valid for 3 years from the date of issue
