Considering Medicine is a RuralMedEd program designed for high school students to observe education Hub days for Years 3 & 4 rural medical students
Introduction:
High school students on the Darling Downs have an opportunity to observe (and possibly participate) in the education of Griffith University medical students during their clinical training years.
Target Audience:
High school students studying in the Darling Downs (typically Years 11 & 12)
Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the types of learning featured in medical schools
- Relate medical education to existing knowledge in high school including science, maths, legal studies, communication and english
- Discuss the prospect of studying medicine with current medical students
Learning Methods:
Observation; and if opportunity permits, participation
Program Benefits:
- Observe actual medical training including small group learning and medical simulations
- Speak with current medical students about their experience studying medicine in a regional or rural setting
- Discover the diverse backgrounds of future doctors and their reasons for studying medicine
Content:
- The content will be dependent upon what the medical students are learning at the education Hub on that day
