ShortLook

What is ShortLook?

The ShortLook Program is a 6-week rural clinical placement designed for medical students seeking to expand their experience beyond metropolitan hospitals. This program offers a unique opportunity to work in regional and rural general practice settings, gaining practical, hands-on experience while being mentored by seasoned rural clinicians.

Placement

During the placement, students are immersed in a primary care setting, such as a General Practice or an Aboriginal Medical Service. They develop critical diagnostic and treatment skills while managing a range of complex medical conditions, many of which are specific to rural communities.

Clinical Training

In addition to clinical training, the ShortLook Program provides insight into the broader aspects of rural medicine, including public health challenges, community engagement, and the importance of continuity of care. Students build meaningful relationships with patients and gain both personal and professional rewards from rural medical practice.

LongLook offers year-long clinical placements in rural communities for Year 3 and Year 4 Griffith medical students. Year 1 and 2 experiences
Our LittleLook – Rural Stream program engages Year 1 and Year 2 Griffith University medical students in early rural experiences, introducing them to the unique aspects of rural medicine. International placement elective
The PNG LukLuk program is offered by the Papua New Guinea Sustainable Development Program and offers Year 4 medical students an international placement elective in Papua New Guinea, allowing them to experience healthcare delivery in a different cultural and resource limited setting, broadening clinical and cultural competencies.
