Year 3 Curriculum
General Medicine and Surgery
Hands-on Experience: With 3,200 patient admissions and 200 surgical cases annually, students receive ample practical experience in general medicine and surgery.
Paediatrics and Women's Health
Practical Experience: The stable birth rate, with 150 babies born in 2022/2023, ensures consistent exposure to paediatrics and obstetrics. The family-focused midwifery group practise works seamlessly with hospital medical staff, providing positive practical experience for students.
Aged Care and Cancer Care
Curriculum Fulfillment: Students gain significant exposure to aged care and cancer patients, fulfilling curriculum requirements in these areas.
Mental Health
Community Mental Health Service: A well-established community mental health service, including Child and Youth Mental Health Services and Consultation Liaison for Older Persons Mental Health, is available Monday to Friday, providing students with exposure to various mental health cases.
Year 4 Curriculum
Emergency Medicine
Critical Exposure: The high volume of emergency admissions (3,500 annually), with 1,000 falling into Categories 1-3, provides critical exposure to emergency medicine.
Orthopaedics/Critical Care/Anaesthetics
Focused Surgical Experience: With 200 surgical cases annually, students align their inpatient care with orthopaedics and critical care requirements. They receive individual-focused surgical experience, performing supervised surgical assistant and anaesthetic technician roles.
Clinical Selective and Elective
Specialisation Exploration: Students have the flexibility to explore various specialisations based on their needs and the availability of local visiting specialists.
General Practice
Supportive GP Practice Programme: The busy and supportive GP practice programme ensures students gain practical experience in a primary care setting.
