This interactive one-day course is designed to
provide registered nurses, medical technicians
and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Health Practitioners with the knowledge and
skills to safely undertake peripheral cannula
insertion, monitoring, and care in the primary
setting.
This notionally accredited unit of competency
is delivered as Perform Peripheral Intravenous
Cannulation I HLTPHS009
The learning involves:
- online coursework
- practical workshop
- supervised work placement or observation
To obtain a Statement of Attainment for HLTHPS009 supervised work placement must be undertaken. Students who demonstrate competence of skill at the one-day practical workshop will receive a logbook for completion of the unit of competency.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this (HLTPS009) Perform Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation course, students should be able to:
- Prepare for intravenous cannula insertion applying knowledge of pothophysiology, using assessment of client's cannulotion requirements.
- Perform peripheral intravenous connulation with application of safety and infection control principles.
- Identify cannula maintenance practices providing client education as appropriate and assess for clinical indications of conulo removal.
