This interactive one-day course is designed to
provide enrolled nurses, registered nurses and
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
Practitioners with the knowledge and skills to
safely obtain blood sampling in the primary
setting.
This nationally accredited unit of competency is delivered as Perform Venous Blood
Collection I HLTPAT002
The learning involves:
- online coursework
- practical workshop
- work placement
To obtain a Statement of Attainment for HLTPAT002 supervised work placement must be undertaken. Students who demonstrate competence of skill at the one-day practical workshop will receive a logbook for completion of the unit of competencyÂ

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this (HLTPAT002) Perform Venous Blood Collection course, students should be able to:Â
- Identify pre-test criteria and demonstrate preparation for venous blood collection using client evaluation.
- Perform safe blood collection technique using evacuated system, needle and syringe, and winged infusion method.
- Demonstrate post-collection practice applying clinical and organisation guidelines.
