RuralMedEd Publication in Obesity Reviews

July 31, 2023

The RuralMedEd research team have recently published an article Finding what works-Patients’ long-term experiences of weight maintenance post bariatric surgery: A systematic review and thematic synthesis of qualitative studies in the Obesity Reviews journal. The articles provides novel insights into how patients’ weight maintenance can be supported in the long-term following bariatric surgery. The research team comprised of two RMEA staff, Dr William MacAskill and Associate Professor Janani Pinidiyapathirage, final year Griffith University medical student, Dr Tobias Gillanders (pictured above), and Dr Neil Wylie, an experienced general surgeon with extensive bariatric surgery experience.

Dr Tobias Gillanders provided substantial input to the project, assisting in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and manuscript and revisions. This is but one example of the commitment of RuralMedEd to upskilling rural medical students into research. Congratulations on your first paper Dr Gillanders!

Thank you very much for your time and assistance!
